Entries are open for the 2024 round of the Shaping Australia Awards, which recognise universities’ successful achievements in solving the nation’s biggest challenges and making a difference to people’s lives. Universities Australia has launched the awards program again this year after a successful first round last year. Once again, awards will be made in three categories.

  • The Problem Solver Award recognises groundbreaking research that has transformed the lives of Australians or has the potential to.
  • The Future Builder Award celebrates educators that have gone above and beyond to equip their students with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact.
  • The Community Champion Award honours community focused initiatives making a difference to communities and the people who call them home.

Each category will have two winners – one selected by public vote and the other by a panel of distinguished Australians which will be announced soon.

“These awards celebrate the very best of what our universities and their talented people do to advance our country,” said Universities Australia CEO Luke Sheehy.

“From groundbreaking research to inspiring teaching and community initiatives, our universities play a vital role in shaping a better Australia for all Australians.

“There is no shortage of examples of people going above and beyond to drive new knowledge and ideas, inspire people in the classroom and help their communities in good times and bad.

“Last year’s awards highlighted innovations such as fireproof paint for bushfire protection, improving beach accessibility for people with disabilities and innovative teaching programs to ensure our kids get the best education possible.”

Entries are open until 18 September 2024.
